Happy Two-Double-oh-Seven, people! =) Hope everyone has been enjoying the first few days of the new year!
I started work at the law firm on Tuesday, so I've been heaps busy so far! Thankfully, all the solicitors and support staff are a lovely bunch of people so I've settled in quite alright. =) It's pretty quiet in the office for now, since many of the staff are still on leave, but they'll mostly be back next week so that should be cool. I'm looking forward to meeting them after what I've heard about them from people in the office. Haha...
In terms of work itself I haven't done very much as yet...so far I've done scanning, done the mail, learnt how to use Radix and LEAP (a bit) ...I filed papers at the Family Court on Tuesday and at the Supreme Court today...and I dropped off documents at another law firm. What else...I've reopened a file cos complications arose from a case that finished in November last year...not legal work, cos I couldn't do that anyway, but basically sorting through two chunky folders to separate the accounts, correspondence, legal aid and ICL documents, as well as the applicant's and respondent's documents. Took
ages...but it was a pretty interesting case (which I'm not supposed to talk about). It helped me pick up the basic gist of how family law works... Today I got to sit in with Laura while she was doing her client's affidavit for that case...got to see how messy/vague the interview process could get...I had a feeling the client was making up a few quotes, cos they kept changing! But yea it's been cool I hope there's more to do for the next three weeks.
Anyway...my late nights are finally taking their toll on me - I am
so tired. Crashed almost as soon as I got back from work today. I haven't really noticed how sleeping late has become a habit. If I ever sleep at 11pm (which is
extremely rare), I consider it
really early...and that only just gives me about 8 hours! Which means I almost never get the basic 8 hours of sleep! Hardly even cut 6 hours nowadays. For me, feeling tired throughout the day has just become
normal. I've never really thought before about how this affects me as a person...I've been reading this book called God Is Closer Than You Think by John Ortberg and one of the things briefly mentioned was the importance of getting enough sleep. As you know, sleep-deprived people tend to do subpar work, be more irritable, less loving, more prone to arguing over small things, not to mention more likely to be involved in road accidents. Mainly it affects the attitude with which you face your day. I've never really considered if it makes me less observant to detail, or less sensitive to people's moods... So I really should work on getting more sleep this year! Especially if I'm planning to survive the HSC...
